Northwest Kansas Housing, Inc. provides affordable housing and rental assistance to low-to-moderate income individuals and families in an 18 county region. Currently, housing is owned in Bird City - Ellis - Lucas - Goodland – Norton – Oakley - Phillipsburg – Plainville – Russell - Smith Center – Stockton – Rexford and under development in 8 different other Communities.
THE KANSAS HOUSING RESOURCE CORPORATION (KHRC) IS ACCEPTING PUBLIC COMMENTS ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE MODERATE INCOME HOUSING (MIH) PROGRAM.
The KHRC has released the draft RFP for the public to review prior to the hearing. You can view the draft RFP, along with a list of attachments required in the MIH application, on KHRC’s Public Notices page.
Comments will be accepted through Monday, June 20 and the final RFP will be released on Friday, July 8.
Funding is Available to Help Northwest Kansas Families Secure Safe, Affordable Housing Northwest Kansas Housing, Inc., (NWKHI) administers the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program to help northwest Kansas families obtain safe, affordable housing of their choice. Funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and administered by NWKHI, (PHA) Section 8 assistance helps income-eligible households afford rental rates with approved housing vouchers. The vouchers will help income-eligible households obtain affordable rental housing (includes single-family homes, townhouses, duplexes, apartments, etc.) in their communities. The unit may include the family’s present residence. Rental assistance is based on the eligible tenant’s selection of a unit from all available rental units in the community that fall within rent guidelines and must meet Housing Quality Inspection Standards. Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program:
The Section 8 Housing program works with the 18 Kansas Counties of Northwest Kansas. This program is designed to help low income families maintain their rent, provide decent, safe and sanitary housing by offering assistance payments and protection against unpaid rent and vacancy loss,
The Housing Authority will utilize a basic application form to assess the family eligibility or ineligibility. The application will contain basic type of information.
1.) Names and ages of all household members.
2.) Sex and relationship of members.
3.) Address and telephone number.
4.) Amount and sources of all income and assets.
5.) Social Security numbers for all household members.
After the family applies, there will be an interview, a background check and an inspection of the home to see if it qualifies. There will be a yearly re-certification and Bi-Annual home inspections.
Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program (TBRA)
Teinant-Based Rental Assistance is a rental subsidy, that can help individual households afford housing costs such as rent, security deposits and also utility deposits.
